ADF U.S. Supreme Court Success: Justices 8-1 Vacate "Brokeback Mountain Decision"
|
By God's grace, the U.S. Supreme Court granted the Alliance Defense Fund's request for review and gave a victory in Harper v. Poway Unified School District. The case centered on the First Amendment right of a high school student, Chase Harper, who wore a T-shirt to school expressing a Biblical view of homosexual behavior.
Despite allowing students who support homosexual behavior to advertise their opinions on their clothing, school officials censored Chase's shirt, telling him to "keep his faith in the car." He was even subjected to questioning by an armed deputy!
Last year, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld the school's viewpoint discrimination. The decision was authored by

left-wing Judge Stephen Reinhardt--husband of the current executive director of the ACLU of Southern California--who referenced the fictional movie Brokeback Mountain in his decision to censor faith-based opposition to homosexual behavior.
By God's grace, the U.S. Supreme Court--in an 8-1 vote--vacated that outrageous ruling. We praise God for this victory, which your prayers and support made possible.
But this legal battle is far from over. Please continue praying that the religious freedom and free speech of Christian students will be affirmed, because the next phase of the case is presently pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Chase Harper says, "The bottom line for me... is that people need to know the Truth, and if the things they are doing are hurting them, we must speak the Truth. That is the only way we can love them."
